About Us
Our Company was founded in 1894 by Sidney Webb in Upper High Street, Wednesbury where our Head Office and Chapels of Rest can still be found today.
As seen in the photograph of Sidney outside of the premises in the 1890’s his name is clearly displayed as ‘Sydney’, but all legal documents we still hold for him are in the name of ‘Sidney’ and this is the spelling we’d use as it’s what was written on his headstone.
Sid soon gained a reputation for having the finest Belgian Black Horses to lead his bespoke Victorian Hearses and mourners carriages, This is a reputation that has carried on through the generations and our current fleet of Jaguar XJ hearses and Limousines are amongst the finest funeral vehicles in the country.
Upon Fred and Edith’s retirement in the late 70’s their son Trevor, who with his wife Avril, had been involved with the business from the late 60’s, found himself Chairman and Managing Director, with Avril becoming Company Secretary, a position she still holds to this day. Trevor and Avril had four sons and one by one they have joined the company. Trevor passed away in 2006 aged 66 years and the company was passed down to the boys.
Johnathan (Company Director) joined the company in 1983. Tim (Company Director) was soon after in 1985, Toby (Company Director) joined in 1988 and finally Sandy (Company Director) in 2003. The boys are fully involved with all aspects of the business on a day to day basis and are very proud of the company their Great Grandfather founded all those years ago and with Tim’s wife Kay managing the head office at Wednesbury and their son Thomas now also working full time this truly is a ” Family Business”
